Installing Rox Risers
 
Got a set of the 2in Rox pivoting risers, and the preferred position is nearly straight above the factory mounts, and followed the instruction on how to effectively secure the risers to the factory mount, as there is no way to get a 6mm allen wrench in between to tighten.

I tightened the lowers, only loose enough to allow to use a rubber mallet to tap the risers where I wanted, then used a longer 6mm to go thru the risers and tighten the uppers, only to have them move a bit when I put weight on the bars while getting off the bike.

I cut down the 6mm to get it to fit between and was really surprised how much I could tighten them up, they were really loose.

I am surprised they don't provide a solution to the tight spacing for a "finished installation"

Agree. I have the 2" Rox Risers on my DR650 and also had install issues accessing the bolts to tighten down. You shouldn't have to "cut-down" your tools to install these things. Stupid. It is this reason I will pass on the Rox Risers for my GSA and get the SW-Motech barback/risers. They're not adjustable, but at least you can easily install and GO RIDING. :fineprint:

I have the 2" Rox Risers on my wee and I just tightened one Allen on the tree that would be blocked and tapped them into position with a hammer and then tightened the second Allen. I do not have them strait up though.

I can see if you pivoted them down towards you, you would have clear easy access to the upper set and really crank them down, I really have the risers following the line of the factory mounts.

I really like the change, the more upright seating position, and more pleased that I have confidence that they won't move around on me.

the 2" antivibe rox risers are excellent in their adjustability and "I think" they do help with vibrations. I have them from my klr and want to mount them. I'm pretty sure I have the tools to get them tight but not to hijack this thread...did you have any issues with the cables?

I'm headed to Harbor Freight today for "disposable" Allen wrenches. Will make the short end of the 6mm shorter to fit in that tight space. Not able to really make them tight to my specs without making a special tool.

I did have to remove the electric cables on both sides from their wire loop retaining mechanism to get the length, secured and cleaned them up with some wire tires.

Job completed (HF had 10 various sized Allen wrenches on a ring for less than $2) with a cutoff. Test rode bike for ~50 miles. I like the bar height and the way I sit more upright but.....
1.) The brake line is tight. I have a stainless steel Galfer kit (2" longer) that will solve that at a future date.
2.) Maybe due to the tight brake line, the bars can't rotate back to the original orientation. The mirror stalks need shifted on the bars so the mirror itself (at upper ball joint) can be angled properly that last little bit to make them just right.

Bike is certainly safe to ride but a 2" longer upper brake line would do the trick.

Between previous obligations, I had the 650XT out to test the brakes. The addition of the 2" ROX risers forced me into adding a 2" longer "A" hose but I raised the front fender at same time and did a complete swap of the brake lines, which also forced me to remove the radiator protection plate (Enduro Guardian).

Anyway, the risers really take a lot of weight off of the wrists and I like that upright KLR riding position. Again, I really cranked all of the ROX bolts down after sawing the end off of a Harbor Freight Allen wrench ($2 for a small set of Metric).

The one issue is that the in a hard left "parking lot" turn, the horn button hits the tank bag (GIVI 20L) and gets everyone's attention. I'm hoping a hard right turn doesn't grind the starter. I might shift the tank bag back one notch.

The other is the mirrors. Although not impossible to adjust, they are "unique" in the way you have to adjust with the "hidden nut" thing. I'm sure at some point all will be the way the works best for me as we all have to make those split-second decisions in traffic.

While I was at it, I also changed out the "position bulbs" above the headlights with yellow LEDs. These are much brighter than the OEM incandescents. I like increased visibility.

Anyway, the ROX ROCK! It is still a mystery to me why 40% of 4-wheels don't turn on their headlights in the rain.
