How to remove bar ends from Pro Taper bars

I need to replace my grips. Have Pro-Taper ATV High bars with Suzuki hand guards. Made the usual modification to use fuel line as the expander on the bar ends when I did the original install. Now I'm trying to get the bar ends out. Know not to undo the screw all the way. Only did it about half an inch and the screw moves in and out so I think I'm good there. But the outer expander is stuck solid (#9 in the service manual diagram). Have been wiggling and pulling but neither side will budge. And advice on how to get them out?

Left off one detail in the original post - the grips I'm replacing are Oxford heated grips (the surface of them is deteriorating). And therein lies the answer to my problem. Turn on the bike, turn up the heat to the grips, wrap them with a rag to keep the heat in, and expand the bars just enough that the fuel line expander will come out. Success!

On to replacing the grips.

And one more thing. Switch out the 5/16" ID fuel line that I read somewhere several years ago was the correct size for the expander and put in 1/4" ID fuel line which IS the correct size and will come out easily next time I need to pull the bar ends off.
