(another) rear axle nut question

I know many people have had this problem, but I haven't seen the answer I'm looking for in the endless threads, so hopefully this can be answered quickly (and painlessly)
Have mercy greywolf.

2008 DL650; clean, tighten chain...castle nut threads stripped. you've seen it before.

Luckily, however, the threads on the axle are fine; the nut took all the damage.

I need to replace it to ride again, but dual-star doesn't seem to exist anymore and holeshot isn't answering their phones.

i'm impatient so I want it here sooner.

I know its a 24mm wrench size, 17mm thread diameter but what is the thread count? 2.00? 1.00?

Anyone able to fix this problem without buying a vstrom specific product?

Suzuki dealership doesnt have any in stock, and i dont want the weaksauce oem nut anyway

I'd say it's a M17 fine. Head off to your local fasteners shop, and try until one fits

Try Ace Hardware, if you know the thread size, you might be able to match it...

No one seems to make these at all. We have a a fastner manufacturer in town; even they don't have them. I ended up ordering the OEM replacement from a dealership so I can get back on the bike, but I'm going to get the hole-shot replacement (if they answer the phone) as well

Just use anti seize and 58lb-ft of torque. It will last practically forever. If Holeshot is still in business, they don't check messages often.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

Looks like M17 threads are as rare as rocking horse excrement.

However, it seems to be a common size on many motorcycles so I would look at some of the other bike brands for a source or maybe even Japanese agricultural machinery.

Anti-seize is definitely a must to prevent a repeat of this issue.

Holeshot has a minimum $20.00 order...

We should just do a group buy!

Why not just order the official OEM part online? It's part number 12.
