Reduce Torgue using a Thread Lube or Locker?

Cycle World's Kevin Cameron is asked "If I Lubricate Threads, or Use a Threadlocker, Should I Reduce the Tightening Torque?"

I guess I've never read the fine print before.

That was interesting. The bit about stretch is true enough. BMW suggests replacing a lot of the fasteners when doing work on the clutch and drive shaft since when tightened they do stretch. One time bolts! I suppose the same is true of other manufacturers. They usually don't mention stuff like that in the owners manual because you are supposed to take the bike to dealer for proper service! Wonder if that pimply kid that does the work has been told about it?

I loved this line: "I must caution you against “torque-wrench worship.” "

These days, I'll bet he has if he's at a dealer. Haven't most been through a tech program? Of course knowing and doing are two different things.

I'm a Kevin Cameron nut. I've been reading him since the '70s including all his books.
