Bump to keep the poll active. People who have not had charging problems are needed to make a selection also.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

No charging problems, but I have no accessories except a cigarette socket to power GPS and charge cell phone.

Just to add my experience. I run few accessories in the summer beside a GPS, but winter I'll run Heated gloves, jacket, pants, socks and a gps. I'll modulate it all with my heat trollers, or I'll unplug a headlight and run them all pretty much wide open.

2007 DL650A, with 26,000 miles on it.

Current polling, throwing out the 02 Vee cause only 1 respondent isn't a big enuf stastistical sample:beatnik:

03 or later Vees have the highest failure rate at 33%
08 or later Wees have the second highest failure rate at 17%
04-07 Wees have a 5.5% failure rate

could it be the larger capacity more agressively wound stators are more susceptable to failure? we know from many reports that the aftermarket electrosport stators certainly are

we need more people to respond

I suspected the higher capacity systems might have a higher failure rate. That's why I set up the poll to keep them separate. We need more responses for sure to get a more accurate sampling. Other polls got thousands of responses but they took a while.

The poll thread's not likely the right place, but...

It's looking like ANOTHER R/R failure is occurring on my '03!

Time for the mofset, or is it mosfet? upgrade I suppose.

Anyone have a preferred source?

I think this qualifies. Two sticky posts are a poll on owner's age and MPG reports. Ebay is a good source for cheap used ones. I got mine new from http://roadstercycle.com/Universal%2...%20upgrade.htm

Shunt, it's a three phase full bridge with SCR's in one half, voltage gets too high and the SCR's get switched on and shorts the stator.

It's not only a shunt, it's a butt ugly one.
If I had a time machine the "inventor" of that is probably the one person in history I'd go back and whack .

To date, I've had no problems on my '09 DL650. However, it only has 8K miles on it. I have several electrical accessories -- Rostra CC, heated grips, heated jacket, GPS & Mix-It2, 3W LED running lights -- but I monitor the battery voltage with a Datel Meter and cutout one of the headlights if I think I'm close to the alternator's capability. I also use LED tail/brake lights to reduce the normal wattage use.

The sample size is growing but more feedback is needed. The age poll has over 2000 respondents. Even those who have had no problem are statistically important so it's best if everybody votes.
