I bought a 14 vstrom 1000 3 months and it came with all of the accessories of the adventure model but not the hard cases. The dealer said that my vin number stated that it was not the adventure model but they had just made it look like it. Is there a way to tell if I have an adventure model or not? Thank you!

I think the dealer gave accurate information for a change. Adventure models just came with added accessories bolted on at a higher price. What difference would it make to you now?

Well I received everything but the side cases. He stated that they made it look like one but didn't go all the way because of the bags. He also stated that he double checked the VIN or something else that stated it was not an adventure model. I just wanted to make sure the dealer didn't screw me out of the side cases.

I thought you bought it used. What you need to do to determine if you were fairly treated is to check the price.

2014 non Adventure came in red or khaki. MSRP $12,699
2014 Adventure came in black. MSRP $13999
Both had a destination charge of $335.

The Adventure isn't really a different model, it's more of an accessory package. Here's what makes an Adventure:
Black paint
Different ineffective windscreen
Hand guards
Engine crash bars
Plastic pebble guard under the engine
Not-very-effective-but-good-looking side cases

That's it.

I think a few people were successful in ordering a bare black DL1000A without the accessories that the dealer has to bolt on.
