My wiring diagram shows a 5 wire r/r with yellow wires going to the generator. My bike seems to have a 7 wire r/r and the 3 wires going to the generator are black. Anyone have a clue ? Or am I the idiot here?

The three wires from the stator may be black or yellow. The positive and negative wires are doubled up. Typically, there are two black/red positive wires and two black/white negative wires. Seven wire and five wire systems are electrically identical though the connectors are different. You didn't say what year and model bike you have or the source for your wiring diagram.

07 DL1000

Sorry 'bout that. I was frustrated with trying to diag a no charge situation. The bike is a 07 DL1000. The info I have is off a wiring diagram I found online. Shows a single connector instead of my 2 connector set up. The resistance tests good on the stator, New battery. I'm thinking regulator but not sure

Check the resistance between each of the three black wires and the engine case. It should be infinite. If none are shorted to ground, check the AC voltage provided by any two of the three black wires in all three possible combinations at 5000rpm. Each combination should read at least 75VAC. If not, the stator needs to be replaced and check for loose magnets on the rotor. If the stator passes, the regulator/rectifier needs to be checked but it is rarely the problem.
