Hi,
Me and my riding buddy are traveling to Alaska this June. We figure we will need tires in Montana..
Question,
Anybody in that neck of the woods have a shop that would change tires at a resonable price? Billings/Helena but just about anywere would do. We got a price at one dealer who wanted $60 per tire...ouch!
If you start out with decent rubber you can continue for another 600-800 miles or so (I'm too lazy to look it up:mrgreen past Montana and get new shoes in Whitehorse, Yukon. There are a couple of shops there, and I used the Honda place once for a tire. You will want to order the tires ahead of time or you might have to wait for them to be flown in from Edmonton.
OR...you can continue Googling motorcycle repair shops along your route and call them one by one until you get the price you want.
I had TKC80's waiting for me in Dawson city but Hit the wear bars at Teslin Google Maps
so I wound up paying $260 for a Heidenau in Whitehorse AND they had no time to mount it!!
The same K60 sells for under $200 from Revzilla with free shipping!!!!!!!
Also the selection was not the greatest - the K60 was my only choice in the size I needed!!
I can't help with where to go in MT, but I DO advise getting tires before hitting Canada even if you carry them with you and mount them yourself later - you will pay a LOT less in the lower 48!!
if you need tires in MONTANA , Bike Shack, 22 E. Shawnee Way, Bozeman, MT, (406) 556-4644 <bikeshack.usa> , best prices, fastest service (honest, i have no vested interest other than enlightened-self, wanna keep a great shop around).
What Shady said...........find a shop now..........send them an email..........ship the tires a week before you leave.........have them waiting on you when you come thru there.
If you need new tires by the time you get to Montana, I wouldn't wait until Whitehorse. Whitehorse is right at 2000 miles from Billings, MT!! And actually, if you put on a fresh set of new tires before you leave, and don't mount knobbies, like TKC-80's they should last all the way to Alaska. You can get tires at a reasonable price from Alaska Leather in Anchorage. Just call Barb and order up a set and they'll be waiting for you when you get there.
