Good Sunny Alaskan afternoon folks!!

Yup, that's right! It's spring in Alaska and it's 45 outside!! With all this wonderful weather, motorcycle season is getting spooled up and all of us riders who have been cooped up all winter farkling away are getting antsy!

So the biggest and most exciting addition to my Strom would have to be ADV Monster's Model 30 LED driving light setup. It's a two light pod, three LED per, running off a dimmer rotary/High Beam switch. The entire kit will run you 145 with his discount his gives for fellow adv riders.

Picture should be here

All I see are hellishly bright lights. Mission accomplished.

That's cool you have Spring on the way. It was up to 24c here in Vancouver on the weekend. We planted an Apple tree yesterday. I went to Wreck beach twice. :)

I will be heading up towards Alaska in Mid July. Hopefully warm and not too rainy then.

An apple tree? That's great!! Ill have potatoes and carrots planted as soon as my planters are thawed out :)

Neat thing about wiring in the HIGH BEAM wire for the dimmer controller is when you disconnect either of the connectors from the back of the factory light, the wire connector itself I found was only crimped on one side. This means when when need to hard wire a High Beam switch wire, just stick it in the already existing connector and crimp it with a pair of needle nose and BAMMO!! Ops check good :D

Please excuse the dumb noob questions...

What does "dimmer/high beam" control mean? Are you taking power from your high beam switch? Do the lights only come on when you have your high beams on?

Also...does he sell this as a "kit", or did you piece it together? Can't seem to find a kit on his site.

No worries man. What I bought was not a kit. I bought two of the Model 30 LED light pods, and the manual control dimmer. Doing it this way, all I had to do was hard wire/solder a 10 amp fused power wire from the battery and do the same for a ground. Also, buying what I did, the lights are already to connect to the dimmer switch with lock connectors.

So what does it mean with the dimmer/High Beam? The dimmer does just that, it controls how bright the lights are on LOW BEAM. This is so you dont blind folk on the road. The HIGH BEAM Switch triggers the LEDs to go 100% power, its a 2 amp fused wire that plugs into your HIGH BEAM power wire. It does not power the lights, it's just a electrical circuit to "trigger" the release of 100% power.

$145 isn't a bad price at all. I think my LED driving lights were about $50, but they are pretty hokey -- $35 WallyWorld lights that I never installed on the car I used to own with superbrightleds.com's replacement LED bulbs :)

Awesome...thanks for the clarification. I have the VVME HID kit, so I have a a bulb connector not being used. I could just tap into that for the High Beam control.

Plasma LEDs

I went with the PlasmaLEDs (waterproof 008 model) others have used, mounted to the forks where the reflector mount is using a small angle bracket I drilled, trimmed and painted. I've been very happy with them so far over 400 miles. They don't throw much light for seeing at night, but you sure get seen!

I have them running through a rocker switch in the dash and powered via a switched fuse in a PC-8 box. If I'm doing a lot of camping, I can change it to an un-switched fuse to have extra light for setting up camp at night, etc.

A few photos for those who are interested:

Looks good motorcycle guy, very clean install....... Just a word of advice, heads up, whatever. Lights mounted low on the forks like that are very prone to breakage, especially if you ride gravel and are following another bike, a car, or whatever..... Don't ask me how I know this (one of mine was shattered on the 2nd ride I had them).

They look and work great on the lower fork legs, but they won't last long......

So are the Mondomoto ones good for seeing at night? I have a set of the Denali lights from Twisted Throttle on my DR650 and LOVE them. I can see great at night, and people have said to me that seeing them is like looking into the sun!

I checked their website and the Mondomoto ones look nice, but I wonder if they're as good.

You get what you pay for. If you want cheap China made crap Buy ADV Monster.
If you want quality, And someone that will stand behind them forever look here
Cyclops Adventure Sports
Sure the Clyclops are way more. But the wiring is top notch. The lights are not over driven and a short life. And knowing if there is ever a problem they will make it right.

so, since you speak with such "authority" tell us where cyclops lights are made. nothing on their website indicates country of origin. and their return/exchange policy is not exceptional. also, the terms and conditions on their website refers to "11 above" for details of the warranty and conveniently there is no "11."

sounds to me like you may just be affiliated with said vendor...:jawdrop:

I got a set of those "Mondo Motos" lights. I can't say I'm all that impressed. Sure they're bright from a running light point of view, but at night, the beam doesn't seem to be anywhere near as powerful as the Denali lights I got from Twisted Throttle.

I even went so far as to put in a request for an RMA to return them. That was over a week ago and I've never gotten an answer. So a FAIL in quality and a FAIL in customer service.

I will eventually get another set of Denalis and put these on my FZ1, which I really don't ride at night anyway, but it could use some running lights for added daytime visibility.
