It's time for a new helmet guys and I was wondering if some of you guys are using the adventure style helmet with a visor. Dose the wind catch it? Is it noisier than no visor? I know the visors are mush shorter compared to tottaly off road helmet just looking for some opinions. Thanks

I really prefer flip up helmets, non adventure style. The Shoei multitec fits me well and is quiet. My back up is a HJC flip up with a drop down sun visor. I also find it comfortable, a little noisier, although I nearly always wear ear protection.

Timely topic, I just got a new Fly Trekker ADV style helmet and it has cured my helmet roar noise issue. :hurray:

I'm thrilled. I think the visor is breaking up the down draft of a spiral coming off my 20" MRA windscreen on a Madstad. I can now ride with the visor up or down and the noise level is the same, a wind whoosh, but not a roar, just more airflow with the visor up.

Issues, it's a drafty helmet. lot's of airflow, which will likely be welcome in July, in March, ....not so much. However, I saw a tip on another thread about using a chin curtain from a Shoei Hornet helmet and it has worked great, fit just fine and made a big difference in the airflow circulating up through the helmet. ($6.50).

This is also the same as the AFX 39xx helmet. I was able to order an exterior flip down sun visor for the AFX and it it fine on the Fly. ($25)

So far the visor lift effect has been very light on non windy days, but on a recent windy day jaunt, in the cross winds it was a bit boisterous and annoying. But it can be removed fairly easily.

Fit and finish has been on par with a few HJC's and a Nolan I've had. Not top end, but nicer that you'd expect for the price ($125). So far I'm very pleased...

I bought this Sparx Nexus last year, and although it's great for day rides and commuting, I wore it on a 3500 mile trip last July, and a couple days in I had to remove the visor. A full day ride, at speeds above 65 mph or so, the pull on my head gives me unbearable back pain, like a knife being stabbed right between my shoulder blades. I'll still wear it to work and back, and for casual rides around the valley, but longer rides at speed, or trips, nope. I'm back to the HJC Modular for those.

GT Air, Shoei

Hey Mattski, how do you find the noise level on your GT Air? Is it a noticeably quieter lid as Webbikeworld asserts? I'm interested in this helmet.

I have found that the Fly helmets, Trekker, and Paradigm seem to be quieter than others I have. I'm using them with the Suzuki Adv. windshield, and I'm overgrown at 76 inches tall. Other helmets I have are Bell Star, Shoei TZR, and an old KBC VR2.

It's definitely a quiet lid with the forward facing air vents closed, but that doesn't help me much during a Phoenix summer. :) I find the vent on the top of the helmet to create the most noise, but I typically ride distance with earplugs and it's a non-issue around town. I'm wondering if a Madstad bracket and windshield won't streamline the airflow and change things a bit. The quality of the airflow behind the OEM 2012 Adventure windshield is nothing to write home about...

A very comfortable, high quality helmet in all regards. I don't think you'd be disappointed at all.

I have a Shoei Hornet Dual Sport helmet and now, a GT Air too. The Hornet is fine around town and great for slower trail rides but on long road trips at sustained speeds of 60mph+, I find it distracting and annoying. When I'm looking straight ahead the drag of the visor is not too bad but any amount of cross-wind or when passing trucks and making head checks, the wind really grabs that visor and pulls my head around. It's exhausting to wear at highway speeds for anything more than short intervals. It's the big reason I bought a second helmet.

I picked up an RF-1100, which I wore for one year and sold when the GT-Air was announced. The 1100 was an excellent road helmet but the GT-Air is even better, in my opinion. It's very quiet at highway speeds and that internal sun visor is impossible to beat.

Running the AFX FX-39DS and really like it. Have made several hundred mile runs , but nothing longer up to this point , with no issues. But I really like the helmet , and find the noise it allows in is acceptable. Priced right too.

I just order the AFX FX 39 DS I hope I like it, ill let you know.

The visor is removable if it doesn't work out , But I'm sure it'll be fine for the shorter runs at lower speeds.

After all its an adventure . Right.

Crash tested

Zeus DS is my choice. On my second one as the first was trashed with my head inside it. Landed on my head at about 95 kph. Visor doesn't cause problems at the speeds I travel at and the visor is good, my previous one was still clear after two years use. I really like the visor for riding into the sun, much better than shielding the eyes with one hand.

it's time for me to get a new helmet as well

I tried an Arai XD & XDII a couple years ago, wrong headshape, my current helmet is a Shoei TZR, before that, I had an Arai Signet e

what helmet to get for Mr. Potatohead with Klingon bumps, where to get? Helmets are a try on and buy at bricks and mortar for me, I'm willing to ride a couple hundred miles to look at a good selection
