Clearing a lien (CA)

I could use some help figuring out how to clear my Strom's title. I bought an '08 DL650 new from OTD Cyclesports. I paid cash. And I kind of figured that was that.

OTD Cyclesports put itself as a lien holder on the title. I didn't pay much attention to it until the title came. And even then, I just kind of glossed over it. :headbang:

OTD Cyclesports is either out of business or perhaps morphed into LA Cyclesports. They don't seem to think I owe them money. My credit report is still happy. So it looks like a mistake on their behalf.

Any ideas what's involved in releasing the lien? Do I need to chase down some previous owner of the business?

Thanks!

my first question is: did you finance the bike? if not, the lien is invalid. but...if they are out of business, you're gonna need to fight with dmv. maybe even need an attorney...

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Lien Sales

If OTD has morphed, chasing down the purchase paperwork is first up. You can probably do this yourself but feel free to PM me. I've had success working the DMV system and am in SD.

OTD's old site is registered to LA Cycle Sports. I'd start with a phone call to their sales manager. Reminding them that they have to keep sales records open to DMV inspection if it starts getting sticky might help.
