for the V, you can try any lever designed for the DR650. i have both bikes and the lever on the DR is longer, as well as bendable so you can custom fit it...sorta
How big are your feet? At size 12 I didn't have a problem with the stock Vee and linkage. Another choice would be the Touratech lever that gets rid of the linkage altogether.
Dont know what model Strom you are riding. Went with the DR650 lever for my 06 Vee. Did away with the linkage, well-made, inexpensive. Wear a size 13 boot. :beatnik:
I have a size 16 foot so...yeah, I could see the need. I really only worry about it when I am about to come out of a left hand corner and need to upshift. I have hit my toes on the ground before cause of this. Not sure a longer lever would help.
12-13 here. When riding aggressively , I have to mentally remind myself to tuck my feet in and back , otherwise I drag the outside ends of both boots. Don't really think of it as unsafe , but it can get expensive pretty quickly.
When I sold my beemer and purchased my 07 wee one of the things I kept and put on was this Ilium Works 10-300 Shift Lever Extension. Fit right on over the existing shifter and is still there.
Although many of us could probably benefit from this item too, I think most of us are looking to extend the entire lever forward--not just widen the toe piece.
I have ordered this shifter relocation extension kit which was discussed in another thread. This will keep the shifting pattern the same and keep the stock linkage setup. I wouldn't be able to tolerate a reverse shifting pattern.
Here's my 60 dollar solution. All from Flea-bay. 25 bucks for the KLR pegs , 22 for the DR shifter with folding tip. Works great out of the box for my big foot. Bonus: less clunking into gear , as you have gone from 4 (!) pivot points , to just the shifter straight off the output shaft. Shifter tip is now almost directly under the center of the stator cover.
Darcy , nice budget minded solution. For the big footers wanting to ditch the stock shifter for a longer unit , the one I purchased was made by EMGO. Thing is built like it was meant for a tank. Solid unit.
I wear a size 13 equivalent Forma boot. These have the enlarged toe area which exacerbates the problem even more. A simple solution that worked for me on the DL1000 is:
For me it was also about getting a foldable shifter ,have broke the ends off of 2 reg shifters off rd.
