Swapping windshields frequently - Anyone doing this ?

Hi Guys,

I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who regularly swaps windshields.

I like my mini cut-down windscreen for commuting but I am considering getting myself a huge windscreen to look through for weekend touring.

I'm not looking for suggestions on windscreens, just wondering if anyone swaps their screens on a regular basis and if there are any problems with doing so? Any "quick release" mechanisms? Any problems that I haven't considered ?

I don't know if it would qualify as "frequent," but after several changes the well nuts on my Vee started to shred. They're cheap enough, but not something you'd be likely to have on hand or easily find while traveling unless you planned to.

If I were going to do it, I'd just get some knobs in the appropriate thread/ length.

I use the stock screen most of the time and a big screen in cold weather or multi day trips. I just use the regular attachment procedures. I've never trashed a well nut. Just tighten the screws enough to swell the rubber. Don't tighten them like they are screws going into solid metal.

My VStream has rarely been off since I put it (and a Madstad) on a year back. It serves well as a touring screen and as my everyday screen. The Madstad adjust-ability helps. In fact, it makes it possible to be a one-screen man. Mostly.

The old OEM screen is getting cut to a shorty height. We do get occasions in the summer when it is nice to feel the wind (I've ridden the bike with no screen, and like it). Mounting it on the Madstad would make for less fiddling to go from one to the other - I'll have to try the new shorty with the Madstad and the stock bracket to see.

I have made rix or seven windscreens for my Vee and have settled on two that I swap anytime I see a need. I have a streamlined one for warm weather, it looks like a sportbike screen, and then I have a taller wider one for cold weather. In real hot weather I have gone with no screen at all a few times. It isn't pretty, but she's smooth--no buffetting!
The sporty screen is the one I use the most.
