Depending on where you intend to use it you might want to get the latest Garmin CityNavigator (I have V8)

A micro-SD card of a meg or more (if you can find one larger is better) will let you hold lots of maps.

I use RAM mounts for my V-Strom, a Windsheild attachment for in my car, and a Bolt-on base adapter for my Ultralight Airplane. Works well everywhere.

By the way, the Mapsource program can transfer tracks to Google Earth so you can view your travels there.

My Opinion:
Vee or V= DL1000 before 2014
Vee2 or V2 = DL1000 2015 to 2019
Vee3 or V3 = DL1050 2020 to?

My Stroms:
2006 DL650: 202,000 km 125,500 miles, Sold
2012 DL650 139,500+ km, 86,700+ miles. Sold
2015 DL1000 New July 2015 205,000+ km, 127,000+ miles.

This can help preventing from cars pulling out in front of you (SMIDSY)
SMIDSY detailed report.

If you can load POI files on that model, check out:

Advrider.com has a special section devoted to GPS issues with a bunch of good info.

I have Garmin's "Automotive Navigation Kit" which includes their MapSource City Select North America DVD and various devices and cables for using the 60CSX in a car. What I didn't buy yet, and haven't needed, is National Park, Marine, or Topo DVD's.
I had in mind automobile, boat, hiking, and motorcycling uses for this GPS and so far it's been excellent.
But to use it with my DL650 I went to REI and bought the Garmin bicycle mount setup for about $20. This mount is surprisingly sturdy and eliminates the need for a RAM-type mount. The 60CSX can be used fairly well with gloves too, so it has turned out to be a good multi-purpose unit IMO.

Smile Garmin 550 Zumo

Got the zumo for Christmas. I just finished putting the mount on my DL1000. Took a hour ride and it seems to fit and function fine even with gloves. I now need helement speakers and a mic. I'll have to look for a good set. Anyone know of any?? I have a blue tooth phone and have it program but need to hear it. I'll post again after some long rides.

Best regards

Norm

There's a bunch of Zumo info on advrider as Mattman mentioned. The big glitch right now, and I can personally attest, is that you can either do bluetooth phone/navigation prompts OR the rest of the audio available on the Zumo XM/mp3 etc.

Details are confusing but it boils down to Audio/Star/Autocom vs. Zumo wanting to be the control.command.center of your universe.

I've got mine working great for cell/navigation prompts via bluetooth into the Scala Rider, but I have to give up wireless/bluetooth if I want stereo audio/XM/MP3.

I've got a Garmin iQue 3200, had it since October of '04. Use it just about daily for everything from navigation to finding places (yellow pages) to solitaire to day planning.

Had a few problems with crashes, but that may be due to the Palm OS in a non-Palm platform.

IMHO, Mapquest is more than enough for me. Might be other, easier progams out there, but I'm happy with Mapquest.

Guess I should have been wearing pants...
