Suzuki Heated Grips Help...

I had my dealer install the Suzuki Heated Grips on my 2006 DL1000 this past week.

After searching online, I realized for starters that the grips are heated by a thin element running the length of the grip from the point the wire attaches. Well on the Left Grip the wire is on the bottom - which seems to make sense because the element gets darn hot and the bottom of the grip is the point you have the least contact with the grip...

On the right side throttle tube though the dealer installed it where the heating element sits right on the palm of my hand where it is always resting. The thing gets so hot it is burning my hand - through my leather gloves!

I took it back and asked them to adjust the grip to the bottom like the left side and they told me (after an hour wait) that it could not be turned because that is the only way the throttle tube fits in correctly.

So, tonight I dug into it myself and the solution I found was to remove the end weight and remove the entire throttle tube with the wires attached to it for the throttle and the heated grip --- rotate the thing upside down and re-install it. So now the throttle wires are underneath the handlebars instead over the top like it was before.

This seems to solve the problem, the heating element is now in a desirable place...

My big question: Is having the throttle cables extending from under the throttle tube OK???

I checked by cranking the steering fully left and right to see it didn't kink on anything, etc...

Any help or thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated!!

I wish I knew why those grips were so screwed up. I'd tell the dealer to replace them with grips that work. A proper heated grip should heat evenly ALL the way around the circumference. No uneven heating that is wildly obvious should be allowed.

Now get in there and get some grips that work. Oxford Heaterz grips look very much like the factory kit including the variable heat control and they work great. Oh yeah and they're only seventy clams or so.

Ride warmly!
