Missing parts...

Here is something odd. We are moving and my bike has been in storage. Yesterday I went to check on it, fire it up, sit on it. Looked at the dash and saw that the rubber covers for the odometer reset were both missing! I assume something chewed them off, but can I get replacements? I need less "weird" in my life.

On my bike (2002 DL1000), these are available -- look in the Speedometer fiche for "switch gum".

However, if something has deteriorated or eaten these rubber bits, you likely have far more serious problems. Mice also like to chew wiring, nest in airboxes, and generally be pains in the ass.

If they simply deteriorated, you might have an ozone problem in this area, and everything else made of rubber must be inspected or replaced.

Thanks, BW. Looks like I'll be doing a strip down once I get the bike out of storage. Yeah, I've got every other thing listed in my sig, but not the year! I have a 2008 DL1K.

Yeah, I noticed your bike's model buried in there at the last minute...

On my bike, I actually removed these bits because they made removing the dash such a royal pain in the ass. But hey, they're right where you have to look at them, so if it's going to bug you, might as well replace them.

As I said, I'd be a bit more worried about what else might have deteriorated or been eaten.
