Question V-Strom name?

This has probably been asked before but:

Anyone know the origin, significance or meaning of the name V-Strom?

IIRC it's derived from "V" for the V-twin engine and "Strom" a German word for Stream or Current. One thing is for certain, it doesn't mean "Glee" in any language!

According to Wikipedia, V refers to the configuration of the engine and Strom means either stream or current in German.

Thanks for the replies.

I didn't think about looking in Wikipedia.

It should have been called an "L" strom. V engines are typically more near 45 degrees. Our bikes, like Ducati, have L configuration at 90 degrees, makes for a smoother running engine.

Hence D "L" 1000. Maybe they wanted to appeal to the cruiser group by using V...?

Perhaps you are interested in the history of the bike?

Or the "Review that started it all?"
