Lowering link question

I just finished installing a set of 1 1/8 kouba links, I also dropped the the forks 18mm. Wow the bike feels low now.

When I was installing the the new links I didn't pay enough attention and pushed the bushing out an inch. When the bushing came out these little pins popped out. Looks like they might be rollers that the bushing sits on. I was able to set the pins back where they popped out of . They seemed to click right back in. My question is, what were the those little pins and is it really bad if they pop out like a that?

Those are needle bearings. If they came out, the bearings could use some grease. They should be sticky enough from grease to stay put unless you pushed them out in the process of re-installing the inner bearing races.

Do you think I should open them back up and apply grease or leave them buttoned up as they are now?

You know what they looked like. Were they obviously greased? If not, I'd go back in.
