Inaccurate Speedometer...

I've read many references to the Stom's innacurate (-sp?) speedometer. I put a Speedohealer on mine, and it now reads with 1 mph of the GPS readout.

If you put the 43 tooth sprocket on , will the speedohealer correct the OD as well?

The SpeedoHealer will correct both, and therein lies the problem. The V-Strom speedometers are typically about 8% optimistic, while the odometers are pretty close (about 2% optimistic). The SpeedoHealer will adjust the input to both by the same factor, so if you correct the speedometer so that it is spot-on the odometer will then be about 6% pessimistic. The instructions included with the SpeedoHealer warn about this issue.

I just added one to my strom last night (DL650). SpeedoHealer has an online photo for the location of the connector to plug into.

The DL650 speed sending unit is on the front wheel. The wire follows the brake lines up into the steering head area. It's necessary to cut the ties holding the wire to the brake lines. The wire is also held down by a clip near the connector itself. Slide the wire towards you to unclip (you're facing the right side of the bike like in the picture from link above). The added play makes it much easier to access the connector. Pull the connector apart (mind the locking tab-it's towards the sending unit) and plug in the SH connectors. Route the new wire under the tank to the battery area.
There's a good vertical place to mount the SH just behind and above the battery. Make sure the wire doesn't cross the frame where the seat is supported by rubber pads. Don't forget to to re-clip and re-tie the wire to the brake lines and add ties in other choice places.
Maybe someone with a DL1000 would be kind enough to post a procedure too. :wink:
