Has anyone changed the muffler covers to black

The silver covers over the stock mufflers make the back of the bike look like a boat anchor. Anyone had the guts to paint them and the other heat shields black yet? Any photos to show off how good it looks?

Is there a heat and scratch resistant paint that would work on this?

Or would say painting just the lower half of the heat shield look better. the stroms "look alike" KTM 950 adventure brother has a portion painted up at an angle which seems to help alot, but one step further with all black may be the ticket.

The heat shields are plastic. It would be kinda difficult to melt plastic powder onto them.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.

We talking about the 1000? Cause the heat shields covering the exhausts are NOT plastic! They WILL powdercoat. Not sure about the Wee?

We are talking about the same "thing" aren't we? The very ugly shields that cover both the exhaust cans on the 1000?

Would drilling a pattern of holes before painting give it a more 'industrial' and dual purpose look? As on actual dirt bikes?

Right now I have no bikes.

My bad on the heat shield. I thought both bikes had plastic shields.

Too many people around here with no mention of which Strom they are riding.

Hard to figure out some of the posts if there isn't a mention of 1000 or 650 somewhere.

+1. Though, they are very similar, they do have some important differences.

That's an interesting idea. But instead of powder coat, I think a hard Black Anodize would be a way-cool.

You ain't bragging if you can do it
