Excellent ridesmanship in an emergency. Hope I can keep my cool should that happen to me. Was the streak down the side of you bag a brown color by chance?

Damn forest rats. I had to ninja kick one that was trying T-bone me last summer. I won. The deer ended up in the mud on the shoulder of the road and I continued on upright (with a sore left leg from upper-cutting a deer at 50 or 60 MPH).

Great job on dodging them critters. They get crazy this time of year. Nothing but deer sex on the brain. Be extra vigilant at dusk, dark and dawn. I tend to just stay home and have beer rather than ride at those high risk times in the fall.

Yikes! Glad you made it through. Back in the 80's a friend of mine hit a cow in Wisconsin, split the cow in half. Riding a Ninja too fast a night. Imagine stopping sliding and being covered in blood, and in seering pain, bike in pieces on an empty 2 lane in cow country. Then not knowing if its your blood or the cows. He lived, but was pretty messed up for a long time. Count yourself lucky.

It's good you didn't panic and just hit the brakes, probable save you and your bike.

Isn't it allowed to hunt 'em?

It sure is, but the Hunting is a dieing sport in the south west. Especially in California.

I have already been taking hikes in to the Wilderness areas to find a good spot for this years hunt. But first comes quail, and dove season.

In Pennsylvania, deer hunting ranks right up there in importance with drinking beer and having sex. Not sure if that's the correct order, though. I think the beer thing might be first. Then the deer thing. Then the other one.

Schools in our county are closed the first day of deer hunting season. But somehow, the critters seem to keep propagating (they don't have beer and can't get hunting licenses, so I guess sex is all they have to worry about).

Deer here are dumb as stumps. I come around a corner and there's a chipmunk starting to cross the road. With a brain the size of a walnut, the chipmunk sees me fifty yards away and is wise enough to turn back and run off the road.

Not so deer. Dumbest animals alive. "Hey, man," a deer says to his buddy, "why don't I stand here at the side of the road, staring at that huge machine coming my way, and when that metal monster is almost here, instead of retreating back into the woods, why don't I jump right in front of it?"

- Tom

(P.S., mokusbajusz, the plural of beer is beers, but the plural of deer is deer. Don't ask my why. I think the people that made up our language must have hung around with deer too long - like, some of the stupidity got spread around)
