back home again

made it home sunday night. my trip was great and the return ride weather was wonderful. logged 1290 miles total for the trip. the bike ran super with zero mechanical issues. i hope this is a sign of things to come. i do believe i will try a madstad mount. i have been reading that it makes a difference. i would like any input about it ,good and bad. be safe and look out for the other fools on the road. being attentive is sooooo important.

Welcome home. Glad you had a good trip. Yes, you do have to look out for idiots out there. There are just so dang many.

About the madstad: I have the stock shield and just installed my MadStad last week. I adjusted it to where the instructions suggested, and made only one additional adjustment to get the sweet spot. In all configurations with the stock mount over 60 mph it felt like someone was beating the top of my helmet with a mallet. Now the airflow is more on my face shield and the Strom is actually perfect in every way. I was a bit worried about having the air on the front of my helmet, thinking that I would have less rain protection, but after a ride in a mountain downpour with the stock configuration, there was really very little protection from the rain anyway, so no loss.

Basically, if you have a buffeting problem, try the Madstad before you buy another shield. At $65 it is a cheap fix if it works for you. It is essentially infinitely adjustable, so you should be able to find the sweet spot.

Held off on my first LD ride until the Madstad was mounted. Tremendous difference and all for the positive. Money well spent.

I just got the Givi windscreen for about 100$ (40$ more then the Madstad) and I LOVE IT! I cant compair it to stock with a Madstad, but this screen made 60MPH+ enjoyable. I did try the 1/2 spacer on the upper mounting bolts on the stock screen and it helped, but not much. The Givi made upwrite riding enjoyable all the way up too 100MPH. After that, I just crane my neck a little. The shape complaments the bike great, and the little black rubber tubing they put around it is a nice little detail. So far, its the best money I have spent on the bike, besides buying it in the 1st place.

Where in Indiana do you live? I have a Madstad you could check out if you happen to be in the neighborhood. It took some fiddling to get the height and angle right but once you get it dialed in, it's far superior to the stock mount.
