Next would be the connections between the battery and the clock. The large connector under the rubber cover in the fairing and the connection to the instrument package itself are the usual suspects.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.

The clock is independent of the ignition switch. I would connect a voltmeter to check the red/white wire for voltage when cranking. I'm not sure what the cutoff point is where the clock resets but I imagine you should see something like 11.9V. Compare the reading to one across the battery when cranking. If the battery voltage is higher than R/W to ground, there is a marginal connection. It it's about the same and below ~11.9V, the battery may have passed but isn't doing a good enough job. If voltages are okay, suspect the connection at the instruments.

Well, everything that you have suggested has been completed. I am suspect of the stater solenoid as it now has a delay when the stater button is pushed. I have called my 3 Suzuki dealers in the area and as usual they don't have one.
Jeeze these dealers drive me nuts. Plenty of chain lube & plexus they have. I swear I believe the parts room is a break area with a coffee pot and a table. They walk into the room & walk back out to say we can order it see you in 10 days.
I also have removed every ground on the bike cleaned & greased & reinstall. I am scratching my head on this one.

I still think the battery is the most likely problem. Try attaching jumper cables to a car battery. If it still resets the clock on starting, you'll know it's something else.

Ok I reviewed every step I took along this strange trip & I got the bike to have a complete non intermittent failure. Then the wire wiggling exercise began. Sure enough the connector in the fairing with the rubber boot. With a really close look I saw a slight ting of brown. On the black wire. Pulled it & then connected it with a crush connector & walla fixed.
Thank you for your patience GW

It must have been a black/white wire. That's the ground wire for everything in the fairing. Get a headlight relay kit from Eastern Beaver or Adventure Motostuff or do an HID light conversion that comes with a relay. That will take the headlight draw off the little contacts and connectors and you'll never have problems with them again.
