Clutch and Throttle Cables w 3 1/2 ROX

I'll be installing a Scotts Damper shortly on my 650 V Strom along with 3 1/2" ROX adjustable risers. I already have lengthened brake lines but am questioning if the mechanical cables (clutch/throttle) will be free enough. Does anyone here know if 3 1/2" risers will necessitate lengthening either cable, and if so, know of a source and size?
On the throttle it looks as if longer turnbuckles would suffice (if I can find such an animal), but the clutch, which seems the tighter, may need replacement with a longer assembly if required.

I'm going to be using the 3.5" riser to clear my Scott's Damper. I found on post somewhere that they were able to stretch the Clutch to "work" but that he was ordering a +2" cable from MotionPro. The throttle cables can be spun around (cables leaving the bottom of the bars) to gain 2". Ordering from MotionPro is pretty straight forward...tell them you want stock + 2"...they'll arrive a week later.

hi guys yes it works, but only with Protaper ATV low rise bar. - of course depending the angle of the riser and where u place the controls

throttle side is not so much of an issue - u do have to adjust it a little at the engine side to give the required slack- i did this when the bike is 44,000km - so there may have been a little slack in it already.

Clutch side is tight - and just long enough - but there's no slack on full right turn. the clutch control is rotated downwards a little but still comfortable for me sitting and not standing on bike edit: of course if u are standing and rotating the control further down, its less of an issue

FYI, put the bracket on first before screwing the locating pins- so the tower pin is centrally located - i had to redo that recently

Yes you will need new cables. I did this exact mod for my fathers 09 abs and documented it here on the forum including cable types install etc.

dl650k5 -fully farkled- 65k miles. Sold but not forgotten

stress on the point that u dont need new clutch and throttle cable only Protaper ATV low bar - i could see that if u are using stock suzuki bar or ATV Hi or Mid rise bar, u do need new cables.

I think with a 3.5 inch riser, unless u have very short arm or really like the bar very close to u, u do not need a hi-riser bar. Before this instal, i had a Protaper ATV Hi bar AND a 1.5inch barback- the new setup is still closer to me than the previous setup. FYI i have disproportionate short arm and long body - makes a bad combination in the bar reach game.

Of course u need longer brake line with this set up with ABS bike and i am fairly certain on non-abs bike as well.

Found your post with search but it didn't mention the source of the cables. Do you recall where you got them?

I was planning to use stock bar but perhaps I should do as you did if it makes the installation easier. My current set up is the stock bar with 2" ROX risers set at about 45 degrees (ie not straight up nor flat but in between).
Do you think the 3 1/2" with low Protaper would fall in the same area (I too have long body, short arms)?

Another less expensive option is the Rox1"spacers along with your 2"risers.The spacers are only $20 plus shipping.It is what I used and the 3" is enough to clear the Scotts.I already had the 2' risers and a longer brake line.Here is a link to my post with pictures.

The 3 inches is enough and you won't have to lengthen your clutch and throttle cables and still be able to use your stock handlebars.(although the Pro Tapers are pretty sweet)You will however have to free the wires from the holders at the triple tree as stated in my linked post.
It may not look as neat as the 3.5" rox risers but it works for me without a lot of modifications..
