My friend had a 2010 Kawasaki Vulcan 900. He admits he bought it for the looks without thinking too deeply about it. He is tall (6'2) and complained about the cramped riding position.
After riding my wee I saw sparkles in his eyes - he enjoyed it.
So he wanted a standard/adventure bike but with 'more power, 650 is too small'.
The Vulcan was sold 3 days ago.
He test road for 3 hours a BMW R1200GS and also GSA.
Today he called me and said that the GSA was great but "the BMW engine was not as smooth as your V-Strom", and asked for a 1 hour test ride during the weekend on the Wee.
Of course, the 21K OTD price of the BMW is an issue.
His type of riding is casual weekend riding.
I'm going to show him this thread.
Not asking to persuade him to buy a 650cc if he doesn't want it, but any comments from owners of large adventure bikes (BMW R1200GS) are very welcome. The last thing I want is for him to buy the wrong bike (even a Wee) and then quickly sell it, and I'm to blame of course..
I suggested that even if he wants a Wee, wait for 2 weeks to see what the new 2012 Suzuki 'Middle Class' adventure bike is.
A new Vee is not option IMO, as it is basically discontinued.
I told him to look at BMW800 and Tigers (800, 1050) - but not sure if there are any good and close dealers in Northern NJ area. A close to home dealer is a factor.
One more thing, he is pretty locked on a new bike - doesn't want a used bike/warranty issues, etc.
