Wheels Through Time

If you've thought of visiting Wheels Through Time in Maggie Valley better go soon. The owner says he's closing down the end of October. There's a possibility of relocating somewhere else but it won't be Maggie Valley. Apparently there has been some ill will from the village elders. Too bad; great place.

I don't know about his moving as he has threatened to do this before butttttt it is a worthwhile trip to visit the museum if you have any interest at all in old motorcycles. Not as fancy as the Barber but just as good in a different way.

Yeah, my in-laws live up there and apparently the story is that he does this every couple of years to garner breaks and incentives from the local community to entice him to stay. Don't know if that's truly the case, but it is the "word around town" so to speak. If it's true, then it's not really a great way to do business IMO, and I'd say let him leave.
Was surprised the last time I was in Maggie Valley however. Seems like a lot was closed down, or just not moving like it used to. This was just a few weeks ago.

Dale (the owner of Wheels Through Time) has been telling people that he was going to close down and move for a long time. He told me this at least 5 years ago. I do hope that he changes his mind as Wheels Through Time is a really nice motorcycle museum and a good addition to the area. He is capable of doing this as he has already moved the museum once, from the Chicago area to Maggie Valley. Last I heard, he was looking at moving it to the Phoenix area.

It would be sad to see him go but sometimes things just do not work out.

Wheels Through Time is a great museum, and Dale and his sone make excellent guides through it. Where else are you going to see a Crocker lay rubber? That said, Dale's been whining about making noises to move since the first time I visited, and apparently the locals are just about sick of it and are daring him to put up or shut up. I'd hate to see it go, but the museum at Barber is only another day's ride away.
