Two questions....

Whats the most you ever got into a Vee gas tank? Mines 5.2 I think.... and how many miles from bottom bar flashy to empty by the side of the road?
Again.. on a Vee.

I did run out of gas once. Luckily, was able to coast into the gas station. It was at 225 miles on the tank. It had been flashing at me for about 35 miles.

I think it took like 5.4 gallons to fill it up that time. Been a while though, might not be remembering everything exactly.

Found a thread for you with more info: https://www.stromtrooper.com/dl-1000-...-capacity.html

Are the Wee and Vee gas tanks the same capacity?? At the IronHorse Rally this weekend, it was stated that the Wee gas tank had an "actual" capacity of 5.6 gallons.........that the fuel pump dimensions ate up the other .2 gallons. I don't know if this is correct, just throwing it out there??

I must have been drinking that day cause I dont even remember posting in that earlier thread. Theres no way in hell I've ever gotten 5.6 into the tank at one sitting. The time I got 5.2, I'd had the flashy bar going for about 25 miles or so and was sure I was about to run out. Might test it one day with a small spare tank onboard.

There is a lot of trapped air space above the bottom of the filler neck. Tanks with vented caps can't get above the bottom of the neck into the surrounding space. Tanks with an internal vent tubes running to a charcoal canister can get above the neck bottom if the fill is done carefully. I've seen posts where people have run out and have gotten anywhere from 5.4-5.8 gallons inside. It's not a good idea to run out or run extremely low often because the pump sits in the fuel and can run hot without it.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

In over a year of riding, three times I've put in 19 litres (~5.3 USG) or just a bit more, and the bike was still running. As I read that the Wee has a 22 litre tank, this didn't bother me after the first time.

So I was that close to running out! Good to know.

Thanks.

I don't have a centerstand(yet), so I was wondering how much more gas will fit into the tank on the centerstand vs. the sidestand?

Garage
Tested it this morning

Ok, I just arrived at work and I was running on "stupid" this morning. Here's the story...

Normally, my wife and I ride to work together because we work about one mile apart and we get to save a lot of gas that way. So, I pulled out of the garage to ride to work and my wife was driving because I know that I have to work late and she doesn't want to wait for me.

When I started my Wee I immediately noticed the fuel light was flashing and I thought, "I don't remember putting it away like that?" Anyway, I reasoned that here's my chance for a good test. Since I have a "chase vehicle" on hand for support and I know the distance to work, I took the chance. I rode 21 miles to work while the light was flashing and then filled up. I put 4.7 gallons in the tank and that was filling to just below the neck so I didn't splash fuel all over the place. That means, to me, that I still had about 1 gallon of fuel when I left home if I have been getting my normal 50 mpg. That's pretty good, if you ask me, and I was satisfied to know that when the light goes on, I still have about 50 miles or one gallon to find a fuel station.

Of course, this isn't very scientific but it's what I am going to be using as an estimate of fuel remaining when the flashy thing starts. Of course, my wife thought I was nuts to even try, but that's just me cause I'll try anything once.:biggrinjester:
