Odd noise

I have a 2004 DL1000 with 42k km on it. I bought it used a week ago. It rides great. Gobs of power etc, but i notice some odd sounds from it at certain RPM's.

In first gear when i pull the throttle it kind of growls, then settles down to a normal engine sound. If i shift too soon, the same growl will occur in second gear until the engine RPMS get up past 2 or 3k.

Is this a normal sound for this bike?

The bike has a power commander on it. I was wondering if a mapping change might correct this? or maybe i just don't need to be worried about it?

Thanks for any tips.

Thats +1 from me too. Just don't let the revs drop too low when asking her to do some work...it's a short stroke engine and won't behave like a Harley Vee twin. Above 3,500rpm is good but higher is better for serious work, but using lower revs in very low gears is ok.

Have plenty of fun...these are great bikes and you won't be sorry you have one!

I think you should not ride that thing below 3,000 rpm... the growling you hear is due to you lugging the engine. Your crank will hate you
