The importance of a good passenger now and then

There are often times I appreciate having my girlfriend along (2-up) on rides for great company and a navigator.

Sunday was a good example. After an afternoon spent in the Geo. National Forest, we found ourselves in a traffic jam on the I81 northbound as we headed home to Winchester on the Strom towards evening.

But it wasn't so bad. As we crept along, I found myself enjoying the pleasure of a wonderful (and a few other places) back massage - the envy of the drivers in cages and big rigs around me was palatable. As I practiced my go [very] slow feet up balance abilities, we joked and cajoled as well.

It wrapped up a wonderful day.

suspend reality as often as possible

I also had a great 2-up ride on Sunday: Middleburg area, some twisties new to the Strom. My wife usually follows on her Ninja 250 and my daughter is usually my pillion; it was nice to only worry about one bike this time. I also rode a variation of The Pace, about 50 mph on 35 mph country roads, rarely braking for a curve (setting entry speed early with throttle and downshifting), accelerating out with purpose, even speed on straights - extremely enjoyable ride and very satisfying. Great temperature, little to no traffic once off the main roads. Also good conversation and physical closeness. My wife also liked being a passenger instead of a rider, but I don't think it's a permanent shift.

As the temperature cools and the Summer distractions are replaced with Fall routine, I will make an effort to meet and ride with other NoVa Strommers - maybe the more experienced can expose me to some dirt??
