Saw a LARGE pack of bikes today, and no stopping for red!

So I decided today to take a trip through Boston and maybe have some fun dodging tunnel panels as they fall from the ceiling. Anywho, I got gas, then was at an intersection to turn onto Rt 102 here in Londonderry, NH. I get to the light and notice a pack of motorcycles coming. The line of them extended past the crest of the hill in the direction I was turning. My light turned green and so I start going and notice that the long line of bikes keeps coming, with me now going parallel to them, but in the opposite direction. Well, going through my turn with my green light I start to think: my light is green, and I'm turning onto the same road they're all travelling, so doesn't that mean they're all running the red light? A glance over my shoulder and I saw that, yes indeed, their light was red. What the hell? I'd say only a quarter of the pack had made it through the light by this point. Am I missing something? Was there some special ride ging on in my area where all the lights were allowed to be ignored? That was only the second light on Rt 102 after getting off the highway, 3 more after that one within about a half mile span. If it was some special ride then wouldn't cruisers be parked at the main intersections? Anyone know what was going on?

PS: Had a guy pull up to me at a light in Dorchester to ask about my 'Strom. Damn, I love my bike!

That is common around here for large rides too. It is not legal but seems to be ignored by the cops. I have seen them block intersections so they can all get through a stop sign too. The the blocking vehicle follows up in the rear of the pack.

Actually in Michigan, it is legal to a group of motorcycles to go thru a red light with a blocker stopping traffic coming up from the back of the group.

A large group of two is a good thing, after that there are too many moving parts to keep track of.

NH law is that any group of riders smaller than 100 must obey all traffic laws. A group ride larger than 100 is able to run stop signs and lights but only after notifying local police in each town they plan to do so and requesting their assistance.
