horns

I wanna get a better horn for my Vee, one that doesn't sound like a sick & dying goat

but I DON'T was a Stebel or other obnoxiously loud horns, just something that will make a friendly beep that can be heard without causing hearing damage

Stebel with a trombone mute?

Sent from my Hewlett-Packard 75C, using the Flying Merkel motorcycle app.

Fiamm Freeway Blaster. Louder than stock, not as loud as the Stebel and not an air horn.

2005 DL650 - dearly departed
"I am enthusiastic over humanity's extraordinary and sometimes very timely ingenuities. If you are in a shipwreck and all the boats are gone, a piano top buoyant enough to keep you afloat that comes along makes a fortuitous life preserver. But this is not to say that the best way to design a life preserver is in the form of a piano top.
I think we are clinging to a great many piano tops in accepting yesterday's fortuitous contrivings as constituting the only means for solving a given problem." - R. Buckminster Fuller

How bout a regular car horn. Find a make and model car/truck that you like the horn sound and order one.

better horns

The first farkle I add to any motorcycle is a set of Fiamm Freeway Blasters, wired in with a relay so you don't burn up the horn button. The new Vee has a set mounted inside the fairing with 5/8" conduit clamps and wired with an Eastern Beaver Dual Horn harness. They are loud, but still sound real good.
Loud pipes - never!
Loud horns - ALWAYS!

I've got dual Piaa Sports Horns. 500 & 600Hz. Love them, not too loud but do get people's attention when I need to.

just so that everyone understands, I want a horn for a friendly beep to acknowledge friends, people that wave, etc NOT for getting the attention of some cager jerk thats going to cut me off regardless

fiaam freeway blasters are a bit loud

I'm thinking more like an old 6v VW beetle horn hooked up to 12v

I recommend you get an ON/ON switch. This way you can switch between horns, one for friends and residential areas, then flip to the Stebel. I will be getting the on/on rocker swith for me this winter, that way there's no chance of turning off a horn accidently.
