Fuel injection question

On the DL1000, does the computer that manages the fuel/air mixture for the throttle bodies work independently for each cylinder, or does it apply the same mixture to both cylinders. I recently had a vacuum leak with the rear cylinder and was wondering about this. TIA.

The sensors for air conditions are in the airbox, not the separate throttle bodies. The ECM won't "know" there is a vacuum leak.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

More on my injection issue

I read in the shop manual last night that there are basically two maps for the FI. A Light load map that relies on the air pressure at the intake and a heavy load map that relies on throttle position.
The poor running condition I experienced several times on a 3,000 mile trip occurred every time I exited the interstate after running through a tank of gas at high speed. I am thinking my bike isn't transitioning back to the light load map from the heavy load map. I had disconnected the battery to reset the ECU - which unfortunately would erase any stored codes. I never did see " FI " or anything else abnormal displayed on my dash. So I have triple checked all connections and possible places for vacuum leaks, put in plugs and will now ride until this occurs again. I also ordered the switch to put the ECU in dealer mode so I can check for codes if it acts up again and I can verify TPS setting, etc.
Stay tuned.....

More research

More research on this Forum specifically Stalling after long highway cruise. shows this is a known problem others have experienced.

Has the root cause ever been identified for this intermittnt running rough after long, hot heavy load runs ?

Don't know what switch you ordered but dealer mode can be accessed with a simple jumper.

This is what I ordered, found on this Forum;

Ronayers.com: Search : 09930-82720 - SWITCH,MODE SEL

SKU: 100234

Mfg. Part Number: 09930-82720

I realize it is a switch you are closing which is the same as shorting the two pins. I will mount this and leave it installed.

If you haven't received an FI error where the clock normally resides, you aren't going to get an error code. The most likely cause of poor running after an extended ride is the throttle position sensor. With the ignition on and the engine not running, fully open and close the throttle a few times. If that temporarily fixes the problem, the TPS is the culprit for sure. Replace it. An intermittently faulty TPS won't throw an error code. It would have to fail completely to do that.

thanks pat

thanks Pat, I appreciate the "conversation". I plan on adjusting the TPS tonight, then if the problem ever occurs again, I'll replace it. It was occurring on a very regular basis so I should know rather soon. Thanks again for your help.

Sure...of course...paperclip on the key ring.....its just for putting your bike in dealer mode...no doubt...I'm sure.

I bet she uses her paperclips for dealer mode too. :rolleyes5:

Actually, you've given me a whole new perspective on "dealer mode". Sure explains why you're always looking for more carrying capacity on your Strom. May I suggest you leave the bike home during the harvest and take the truck.
