Custom seat work in the SE?

Looking for more comfort on my 1000, I have been really trying to figure out what to do. Had a Russell on an old K75 I used to have an LOVED it. I probably am leaning towards them again.
There are several other custom seat makers that I would consider, but I keep reading that ride-ins are the way to go. That isn't in the cards for me cause it is a long way from central AL to the west coast.
That brings up my question. Are there any real good custom seat makers in the southeast that I should consider?

Thanks guys for the information. I had hoped I might find someone a little closer by to do a ride-in seat. But I tried.
Good riding!

You dont have to ride your seat into Russell for them to make an excellent seat. In fact they will even tell you they feel your pressence really is not needed. I live 2 1/2 hours away form Russell and still did a mail in. If you need an adjustment then you can send it back to them. I did a ride in with Corbin once and had problems so IMO, riding it in doesnt garuntee you comfort. My Russell had an issue but it only became noticeable after several miles. I called them and I am scheduled to send it back to them for a minor tweek. However after more riding I am not certain it will need it.

Thanks Monkey Man.
I have no doubt about the talents of the folks at Russell. The one they built for my K75 was perfect first time around.
After all the farkles I have been getting for my new (to me) Vee, I am not quite ready to spend what it will cost to get a Russell.
Rick Mayer is still having a special for V Strom owners, but I hear so much about people having good results with other builders only when they do a ride-in. I was just hoping to find someone down south to take care of me at a lower price.
I think I am trying to decide if I am going to take a chance on RM during his special or wait a little while and get the Russell.

Try local upholstery shops...

Try he yellow pages under upholstery. Ask them if they have experience w/ MC seats and if they will give a XX day satisfaction guarantee.

I never used them, but I had a local shop in Tiitusville, FL that claimed to do a lot of seats and said they would tweek it until I was satisfied. I was in there to get a windshield replaced which was the other part of their business.

One encouraging thing was that the first thing they asked was if I just wanted a budget re-cover or if I wanted a custom fitting...at least they had a clue. They also had several ATV, Watercraft, and MC seats underway in the shop.

My point is there are a lot of local, unknown shops that have the skills and will probably be cheaper...and you can get fitted in person and make corrections without shipping hassles.
