Urgent DL 650 Question - On the road

Today was my second day in Germany, after landing and picking up the bike yesterday in Frankfurt. This morning, I managed to do about the most stupid thing I could do, I left my entire massive spare key set, including all my locks, on the seat under the bags, without seeing it there.

About 10min down the road, they feel down into the chain, and made a full rotation around the rear sprocket, and up to the front sprocket, completely derailing the chain. The chain itself seems alright, but there is some light surface damage to the rear sprocket teeth and nuts. Also, I completely broke the clutch push rod and another small part of the clutch assembly where it attaches to the bike, just below the two lock nuts at the end of the cable.

The parts are on order from a dealership just south of Frankfurt, and should be expressed here hopefully by tomorrow morning. Thankfully, I am with my uncle who has been extremely helpful, is giving me a place to stay, and speaks german, so it could be a lot worse. I wanted to get an idea of the of any other damage, or things to consider from you guys, although I don't have any pictures. How touch are the sprocket teeth at each end? Will the choke need to be re-adjusted after putting in the new chock push rod?

I worry about the chain. Check it for links that do not move easily or wobble side to side with respect to each other. The sprockets are okay as long as the damage is not where the chain contacts the sprockets and they are not bent. You need to make sure the clutch pushrod is not leaking oil past the seal. A bent pushrod could have damaged the seal. Do adjust the clutch at the actuator on the end of the pushrod. Loosen the lock nut and back off the adjuster screw a couple of turns. Then screw it in lightly and stop as soon as it contacts the pushrod. Finally, back it out 1/4 turn, hold it in position with a screwdriver, and tighten the locknut.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.

Ok, thanks. Yes, I will have a detailed look at the chain. I just cleaned, inspected, and luubed it beefore I left, so I will be able to quickly spot any damage.
