Making a 700 mile run on Tuesday, need Nor Cal people input

This is the longest ride I've done since the 80's, hope I'm up for it! I'll be making a run from my home in Cherry Valley up to Merced. I was thinking about cutting across the 152 to eventually get to the coast highway for the return trip home. That looks like a nice jaunt through the mountains, any suggestion for a different/better road?

If I was in a car I would take 152 but not on a bike. Here's your route...

eye.surgeon has it right. That's a nice ride. Leave yourself some extra time. The Pacheco Pass (152) west of Los Banos is a windy, busy thoroughfare with major truck traffic. Not much fun on a bike. Now...152 west out of Gilroy to the coast is a nice route, but busy on weekends. Be safe...and let us know what route you picked.

+1, thats some of the best riding in that area. 152 sucks even in a car.
