Suzuki Gel Seat - Not Going Very Well...

Did a lot of research and finally pulled the plug on the Suzuki Gel Seat. I just could not take the stock seat anymore. The UPS truck delivered it yesterday and I put it on the bike. Very first impression was how badly it fit on my 2009 Wee. There is a big enough gap on the front right side that I can slip my entire hand up into the area. Also, the whole front area seems to be "bent upward" very strangely. Oh, and another thing, the seat has wrinkles on both sides due to the strange upward bend in the front seat area, the leather just isn't stretched tight enough. I am not done yet... the seat makes A LOT OF NOISE when I sit on it because it rubbed horribly on the bike frame/tank area due to my weight pushing down and closing the big gap. I am convinced that gap shouldn't be there, it is too obviously big, and noticeable.

So I figured maybe I have the damn thing on wrong and so I took it off and did a quick inspection. I checked out the rubber bumper stops and looked over everything.... this is when I noticed two tears on each side of the seat where the leather bends around under the seat pan and gets stapled. Now at this point I was half mad and half bummed. I immediately contacted the store where I ordered it, (it is very well known) and so far they seem to have things under control. I won't mad mouth them, yet, because they have been super nice so far with my problems and I'll let things play-out and see what happens.

Nonetheless, my very first impression of the seat was a very bad fit. I've read a few other reviews where people complained about this, but that the "newer" seats are much better. The tag under the seat says it was made on 9/11/2008. I didn't care one bit for the wrinkles on each side of the front area. I will take some pictures of the seat and post them. I am really hoping this is a bum seat and the replacement being sent to me is a much better product. I'm not a picky guy, but this is pretty much unacceptable.

Pictures later, and I'll post an update when new seat arrives.

That's a bummer. Hope the replacement works out better.

Well this is a timely post because I started considering the Suzuki gel seat after checking out a number of custom seat builders who I have used in the past. They are all hyper expensive but the Suzuki gel, new on ebay, is under $200.

It really is unfortunate that this happened to you. I know how frustrating it can be. Been there.

I just picked one up from a member. I'd read the fit issues also, but completely forgot about it when I decided to buy this one. I'm at least the third owner of this seat. He got it used off of eBay.

Mine fits like the stock seat. In fact, I think it fits better. There's no room to wiggle, where my stock definitely had room to move. All the edges of the seat follow the lines of the bike perfectly with no gaps. I just went out to inspect the bottom for rips or wrinkles, and there were none

The manufacturing date on mine is 6-10-2008, and was built by "C."

So maybe you just got a bum seat and a replacement is going to do it for you. I hate to suggest this because it's not the way things should be, but I think I'd call them back and make them believe I'm going to be a royal pain in their ass if this happens again. The squeaky wheel theory. That way you might get some personal attention back in their warehouse hand-picking the seat for its quality because they never want to hear from you again.

Just put 1700 miles on mine

Prime ,I just finished a trip with mine which I just purchased from Toledo East on ebay. Mine fit well right out of the box ,but I still transfered the rubber bumpers from my stock seat. Dont be alarmed this seat is hard but you will like it on the long haul. Good Luck.

Sounds to me like you simply got a defective or damaged seat ... haven't heard anything like that before (and I have one too).

I have a gel seat and my ass starts hurting after an hour. I didn't even know it was a gel til about two weeks ago when I saw the comparison on the sticky post. I thought it was stock and thought it sucked. I have done a few 300 mile days and by the end, I am hurtin for surtin.

I was planning on moding it. I am assuming you can mod a gel but maybe not.
Any thoughts on that?

I bought my bike in February from a dealer(not a Suzuki dealer) and I guess they didn't know it was gel because they didn't advertise it.

Why do you think it's a gel seat? If you bought the bike new, I bet it isn't ... as far as I know, no DL's come with it from the factory.

edit: oh, nevermind, it appears that you did not buy it new.

Bummer about the seat.

For some people the gel works for some it doesn't. Very subjective. For me the gel was better than stock but not great and I purchased a Russel.
