Garmin Zumo 550 Users

Just received a new Zumo 550 as a retirement gift and have searched this site looking at the different ways you folks have them mounted. What I didn't notice was whether or not anyone has used the handlebar mounting bracket that comes with the system. My buddy has his installed that way on his venture and it looks good and works well for him. Seems in looking at it, like it should do the trick on a strom as well. Anyone done it this way or seen it. I'd appreciate some feedback on this. Thanks in advance,

Hank

Zumo on the handlebar

I mounted mine with the mounts that came with my Zumo 550 on a 2008 dl650. I mounted mine in the middle of the handlebar and came straight back over the tank bag. Works great. It is very stable and doesn't shake or move. Mounted the same on my dr650 with a second mount. Just swap from one to the other.

See you down the road

If you have the stock windshield mount it will take you 10-15 minutes with a drill and chisel (to remove ribs on back). I don't like the idea of having to look down even a little so the handlebat location is a no-go for me.

If you have a Madstad bracket:

Those both wind up mounted here:

I've got mine mounted on the left handlebar with the Ram ball-mount. Between the h'bar and the GPS I used two of the Ram short extensions with a double ball mount in between. This system gives me adequate mounting flexibility to have the GPS where I want it.

Congrats on your retirement. Ride safe.

Many thanks for your responses and pics - extremely helpful. "Garandman", a special thanks for the install pics, really nice job!

I have it mounted as DirtDad. This is perfect. Well, I know, this is not the best idea to play with Zumo while riding. I know. But if you do it then it is easier to reach with the left hand. No, do not do it ever.
