Madstat adjustment & tightening...info?

I have a Calsci screen and the Madstat bracket and have discovered that the wind blast tends to push the screen down to the bottom position and I am hesitant to apply large amounts of torque to the screw knobs. Has anyone dealt with this and reached a satisfactory result?

Flint I have the same problem with my Givi D260ST windshield.So I'm think the cure in to install a piece inner tube between the two pieces of metal the the knob tighten up.I think that should stop the bracket from moving without having to tighten the knob to the breaking point.Even a thin faucett rubber with a hole already would work.What do U think of that Idea?

Unless you are particularly strong, I don't see how you can overtorque a 1/4 in fastener with your bare hands. Go for it!

OTOH, I have no problem with a 25" tall windshield drifting while installed on my Madstad bracket. Of course, I may not be riding at the same speeds as you may be.

well

I tried a homemade one with some rubber I had from an old car mat and it just allowed flex until the screen laid down? I like the stats for the fact that they will let me do inflight adjustments if I just pull off and do it from the saddle. Thing is at usual highway speeds around her which run from 50 to 80 or so with sprints to a bit over the ton and then back down to between 75 and 80 on the road. This is enough that the wind blast will overcome what I can crank into those knobs but, I have several sets a vice grips and water pumps that will allow me a much better grip and I'm pretty sure I can do some serious damage to the knob the bracket etc. if I wanna? I just hoped someone had run into this and figured up the be all end all of Madstat screen height adjustment that won't get laid back down.

The Cal-Sci screen is the bees knees for protection and vision and just needs to be where I want it.

Ah, you ride faster than I do. Might I suggest finding and installing a finer threaded fastener so you can achieve more torque (clamping pressure) with your bare (gloved) hands? I would think this would be easier than carrying pliers around for adjustments on the fly. Perhaps McMaster-Carr has something.

If you search the forum, you should find my post on how to fix this. Remove the two rubber backed washers with two sandpaper (320 grit) backed 1" washers. glue the sandpaper onto the washers with epoxy. With a full size windshield, at the top position on the madstad, it stays where you put it.

This, I think, was my solution. For me the Givi screen would angle back with wind blast. I tried wood stops pushed into the adjustment groove, rubber ones. The best (and apparently permanent) fix was putting some rubbery washers between the bracket arms. Very tight fit, but snug the knobs and it doesn't go anywhere.

thanks folks.......

Several good suggestions on here and I will get to it since the forecast is still for snow here LOL. It's raining now but the garage is dry so mebbe a good day to play with sharp objects? I like that sand paper idea as well as the rubber ones so will see what is what in the cabinets for "stuff".

Same problem here. I used some star washers in between the washer and bracket. Haven't had too much road time yet to test it, but it seems to be doing the trick.
