Handlebar Clearance on 1000

I recently bought a 2004 V strom 1000 and notice when the bars are turned to the right the hand gaurd touches the fairing. They also hit the windshield when turned either direction(cee baileys). The bars don't look or feel bent. Is there a way to adjust the bump stops or is this a problem with the fit of the windshield?

I have a similar issue.

My bike came with KTM hand guards, an aftermarket handlebar with less rise than the stock bars, and the stock windshield.

I had to have a better windshield, I ended up with a California Scientific tall windscreen and am much happier, but i had to take off the hand guards or else something was going to break (probably the windshield at the mounting point) if the front wheel ever went to full lock on either side. The mirrors will clear okay because I have mirror extensions and I can angle them back a bit.

I tried Rox risers, but that didn't help at all.

I also bought a madstad bracket, even though I was totally happy with the windshield with the stock mount in the middle position. That didn't help and now I'm constantly fiddling with the thing to get it "just right". I will say however that it is a well-made and well thought out device, but it's also like crack for people with OCD.

Reducing the stops would definitely save the day, so if anyone has any ideas, let's hear them. I want to put my hand guards back on.

If they're the stock bars, could they just be rotated in the clamps fore or aft enough to cause the interference?

My DL1000 is stock, but straight out of the showroom I noticed the handgards 'kissing' the fair on full left and right lock. All I needed to do was angle the clutch and brake lever assemblies downwards just a tad. This not only gave me a more comfortable operational riding position but allowed the handgards to clear the fairing. Rotating the bars slightly in the clamps could also do the trick as has been suggested.
