Acronymically challenged

How come we don't have a cool acronym with which to refer to our steeds like so many other bikes do? Crotch rockets are particularly blessed this way, with the GSXR (gixxer), FZR (fizzer), VFR (viffer) and the uber-cool -- and my favorite -- ZR-X (z-rex). Even a BMW can get by on "beemer." I suppose a KLR could get in on the name game, but any rider calling his anemic single a "killer" would probably get laughed off the road.

Why couldn't Suzuki re-designate the DL models something else, maybe DLR....naaah, on second thought "dealer" or "diller" doesn't have much ring. How about DLX? At least that comes out to "deluxe," not very appropriate but at least prestigious. VXN (vixen) would be perfect, but I think the letters have to actually stand for something even if it's just corporate marketing-speak.

C'mon, help me out here. And Suzuki, too. Think how many sales they have lost because noobs googled "V-Storm" when they were thinking of buying a bike (if you are like me you use both V-Strom and V-Storm when searching fleaBay or CL), and nobody but owners use the DL designation.

"Dude!! I'm gettin' a Dell."

Steve, and former "killer" rider. Take one of those loaded up on the highway, and you'll agree that "killer" is a pretty descriptive nickname for 'em.

I think an FZ-1 is a fazer, which is what they are called in Europe (I think) oficially.

My DL is a doodle.

Oh...wait, no it isn't, that is whimpy.

Maybe it is the "real DeaL."

Who knows? I guess it doesn't mean anything to me, to have an acryonym.
I don't fell left out at all.

Interesting thought, though.

I'm happy with DULL. Don't steal my bike and don't let it become a ticket magnet. I don't care what anybody else thinks about it.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s
See https://www.stromtrooper.com/general-...nicknames.html

Ain't that the truth. I made my decision to change over to the Wee one darkening dusk on Hwy 395 in the eastern Sierra. With my wife on the back of the KLR I spent more time looking in the rear-view mirrors than at the road ahead. And when I did look ahead, it was to choose a place to run off the road if the closing speed behind me seemed too fast. I felt like a bug about to decorate somebody's grille.

Who needs an acronym? We already have V-Strom, and that speaks volumes. Do Harley Riders use acronyms for Soft Tail, Fat Boy, Street Glide, Road King, etc? No, they call them by their names, because the name is good enough for them. The squids on their multi letter bikes NEED acronyms, because saying I ride a G S X R all the time is a pain. Why sweat over something you have no need of?

On a local forum, a guy was asking about different bikes, and I and a Vee owner were advising him. After about three pages, he evidently looked up Stroms, and apologized.

"I'm sorry I really thought is was V-Storm, and you guys just couldn't spell"

How about calling it the "UTE"

Universally Travelled Enigma

Like all good utes, mine is a versatile, go anywhere, do anything kind of bike.
The only limitation is my ability

Ock. in Oz

I ride naked and unafraid.
