traxxion dynamics ak 20

Would like some feedback from anyone running this set up on their 650.

Do you feel its the holy grail for the front end? What were you running prior in your forks before the upgrade? Would you do it again?

It's the ultimate fix AFAIAC. Any mod that leaves the damper in makes it pretty much impossible to achieve the wide difference required between compression and rebound damping. I had Sonic Springs before and the difference they made over stock was probably greater than the difference the AK20 made over the the new springs. That's because the springs made a difference 100% of the time. The AK20s only made a difference when the road got bumpy. I just knew that spending a lot less money for an add on damping solution that was not quite as good would leave me wanting. It's the best solution out there. Whether it's worth the high cost depends on the whether the buyer can afford it and whether or not the buyer would be satisfied with less than the best. I would do it again.

Dropping my bike off in two weeks for the upgrade. I hear nothing but good words about their work.

I had A-20s installed at Traxxion and have since put on a few hundred miles. Outstanding! Tracks so much better over the sometimes rough two lane north Georgia roads I usually ride. I also took it out on the Interstate this morning and it feels so much more solid (planted?) than before. It's hard to verbalize.
Wednesday I'll be up in the North Carolina and Tennessee mountains and expect I'll be delighted with how the bike (04DL650) handles.
The only potential problem I see is the temptation to fiddle with all the now possible adjustments, damp, rebound, and preload. Traxxion set it up for my weight and riding style and it seems fine, but you know, just like Madstad,
there's always "let's try a little more/less of this or that".
For now I really like it just the way it's set up.

I took the Strom up to the mountains yesterday as promised in my prior post, for a 350 mile "test ride" on the twisties and a few fire roads. It confirmed my initial reaction that the upgrade is a major improvement over the stock set up, tighter on good pavement and much improved on poor pavement and rough grading.

Not having that nagging feeling that it could be better is what sold me. It's the ultimate solution.

Agreed. Ironically, I got an e-mail today that says Traxxion, along with Penske, has a combination package on sale, through the end of the year. I'm pretty sure that the package for the DL650 is called the "Canyon Carver" but the web site would be the best authority:

Goodness....$1000. I assume it also requires different fork caps (as the SV650 does), so that will add to the cost as well. Do they charge to install it or is that included in the G?

Yes, the fork caps look different as they now contain adjustments screws. I didn't see any additional charge for them on the invoice so I guess they are included but it would be best to ask Max or Mike at Traxxion.

On the DL650, their installation is required. My total wass $1395 for them to custom machine the AK-20 cartridge to fit, create a custom shim stack, replace the springs, oil, spacers, bushings, caps and seals and ship the assembled forks back. Some bikes have created enough volume to let Traxxion develop customer installed kits but the DL650 still requires their installation so has the added labor charge. See the chart at http://traxxion.com/ak-20_application_chart.htm and you'll see the DL650 is in yellow with in-house installation required. The DL1000 is customer installable.
