Packing for a 10 day trip

So I am leaving for a 10 day trip a week from today and I am getting ready to start packing...does anyone have advice on what to make sure NOT to forget?

Thanks for the help!

More than likely you will wind up taking things you will not use or need. My suggestion is to pack light (5 days of clothes) and stop at a laundry-mat mid point.

It's also easier to forget about packing food and just eat along the way keep small items in your tank bag daily (water, snacks, etc...). Try to pack the things you reach for often on top and the least used items on the bottom of your panniers or bags.

Definitely consider rain gear if your gear is not already waterproof.

Good luck and have fun. You're on a Strom... no worries.

Where are you headed?

How often will you see a grocery and hardware store?

Any off road?

Are you alone?

Are you camping?

Are you carrying food?

Are you mechanically inclined?

Is security a concern?

Do you have a road side assistance plan of some sort?

Don't make the mistake I did and forget your koran. You might want to bring a few fine cigars, too.

I take my old socks and under wear and toss them out after wearing. Then I dip into my stock of good cycling shorts and socks. I take a cheap dry-tech type polyester shirt or underwear shirt (from Target) for each day.

My travel checklist that got me to Alaska and back with nothing overlooked:

birth, drivers, passport, title copies
MOTOW card
Canada insurance card
passport
dealer phone numbers
cash
owners manual
helmet
rain pants and jacket
3 pair gloves, covers and liners
boots
riding coat
under jacket
vest
riding pants and spare jeans
slippers
daily pair of socks, cycling shorts and shirt
sunglasses
earplugs
watch
toilet kit
toilet paper
towel
wet ones
CPAP
camera
cell phone
spare keys and credit card
map
flashlight and spare batteries
bug dope
mosquito net hat
extra fuel bottle
compressor
tool kit
tire plug kit
jumper cables
bike cover
rear bag and tail bag
bungie straps
poncho
cigars
peanuts, microwave popcorn, pepperoni, trail mix, raisins, chocolate
bourbon
gatorade
water bottle

Light packing for my 22 day trip

All this is including what I wore.

2 pants
4 long sleeve shirts (good one that are light I used Columbia Titaninium)
4 pair of underwear (Under Armour expensive but great and well worth it)
4 pair of socks
Shower shoes
Shower gear
Swim suit
Money belt
Rain gear
Small bottle of laundry detergent
One pair of Under Armour long johns (didn't take because July trip, after freezing I bought them and will always carry them on trips from now on)

Washed clothes in the shower a few times and dried on clothes line I brought. Still didn't dry so put in mesh bag and tied to seat. Went to a laundrymat a couple times and washed everything.

Also took all my camping gear, but not sure if you are camping or not. Like stated earlier take a few snacks and water. Don't forget your camera so we can see where you went. I bought a notebook computer to post my ride on here whenever I could.

I researched a lot before I went and even made two short trips fully packed to see how things would go. DON'T OVERPACK... If you forgot it go buy it!

Good luck and post how it went including what you wish you would have taken or what you took and didn't need.

Ride on.

OK I will fess up and typically do not share this with anyone!
I always take old underwear with me on my bike trips, then leave them as i go day to day. It makes more room for any extras I may buy, and its out with the old, in with the new..(when I get home!)
In this case, its allot of undies!
