New Owner DL1000

I just bought a 2007 DL1000 and was wondering about a few items:

- 17k on the bike any specific maintenance items I need to be thinking about in the near future?

- Extra head/fog lamps on the bike...worth it?

- Best luggage without killing the bank account any more than I already have.

Only get the lights if you will do lots of night driving.

Givi luggage not too cheap but cheaper than others and very tough!

2004 Silver V-Strom 1000 & 1994 Yamaha XT600

Farkles? Sargent Seat, Genmar risers, K&N filter, cramp buster, heated grips, PCIII, Givi Engine Guards, Givi Hard Bags 52 liter and two 45 liter, Givi shield with spacers for buffeting.

Congrads on the Vee!

Stock head lights on the V-Strom work very well.

It's kind of strange, how the mountains pay us no attention at ll. You laugh or cry and the wind just keeps on blowing.

Do you have the full maintenance records?

At 17K, make sure the valves have been checked and adjusted.

How old/new are the chain & sprockets?

Keep an eye on the Market Place board for used luggage. Givi holds up well. You'd probably have to spring for the mounts separately though.

Welcome to the Board, and to Strom Land.

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

I bought the bike through a dealer, so it has been given a good "once over" by the mechanic, but valves...probably not. I own Honda cars/trucks and know there were certain milage markers that need specific maintenance...hence the question on the bike. I'll ask the shop. I know I'll need a new chain and sprocket in a few thousand miles.

Here in Bama, I'm just hoping for a weekend without rain. Everyone's seen Atlanta's flooding...we got the same thing...just less press coverage! LOL!

+1 on check for the valve, general maintenance, and check the chain. I put on new tires at 12,000. I got caught out and had to deal with that on a trip. New chain at 14,000 only then because I was heading for Florida and did not want to have to deal with it on vacation. I will change the sprockets on the third chain.
I don't like to ride at night unless I have to. I think the lights are very good. I run brights during the day. I did add some reflective tape on the rear. I used the black type.
I like Givi, they are a little high. E52 top E41 sides
Ride safe
Mike

First ride!

First ride on the Strom! I am in love.

I picked it up in Marietta, GA and had to skirt dark rain clouds and semi-wet roads for 30 miles to get it into a waiting garage before the clouds opened up. During that ride I spent the whole time on I-75, I-285 white knuckled waiting for one of the 5 tra-zillion cars to pull into me at 85mph. (I was going the exact speed limit at all times...of course) Not quite the ideal conditions for a first ride. She's fast and very nimble though. I can't wait to get it on some more sane roads... Well, at least there the only insane person I have to deal with is myself...LOL!

This is going to be a blast! See you out there...somewhere!
