SWITCH! From KLR-650 to DL-650 V-Strom; (Actually Caught On Video!)

Two riding seasons ago, after a very long absence from riding motorcycles, my friend, Dale, decided to climb back into the sport. His reintroduction to riding was onboard a new, 2008 Kawasaki KLR-650 which he purchased locally. The KLR has brought Dale some "grins" and a couple of memorable extended trips.

Recently, Dale's wife has stated, "What about me?" Dale and Ann have begun riding two up and have discovered that, although the KLR is a nice motorcycle, they really want a little more comfort and "umph" to their ride.

Dale is a yacht engineer at one of our local boatyards here on MDI. He started doing some research, (which included visits to this website.). Dale's "digging" led him to the DL-650 as being the perfect vehicle for solo commuting, solo weekend and extended trips, and two up weekend and extended trips. (I absolutely had nothing to do with swaying his decision......). Dale found a great deal at Paul Blouin Suzuki located in Augusta, Maine. (NOTE: These very nice folks are offering excellent deals on bikes. They made a recent purchase at a discount and are passing those savings on to their customers. A very clean, well kept business.). I had the day off yesterday from work, so I tagged along for the "swap".

We left Mount Desert Island at 10:00am and made our way down Rt 1, across the landmark Verona Island Bridge to Belfast where we picked up Rt 3 that led us to Rt 95, the Western Avenue exit and to Paul Blouin Suzuki. After the purchase was made, we headed back home.

Before leaving my house, I grabbed my camera; "What the heck."

Below is some footage of the highlights of the day.

Once back home with the new bike, Ann laughingly repeated, "What about me?" I've got a feeling that there are going to be TWO DL-650s in that driveway!!!! You go girl!!!

What a great storyline - seems he took to it like a duck (or yacht engineer) to water, and it looks like the 3 of 'em... or, hmmm, yes, maybe 4... are gonna be one happy, grinnin' family!

What song & artist is that in the video, by the way?

For this particular video, I used Sonicfire Pro. It is a software program that you can purchase tracks for. Create your video, select your music, (all sorts to choose from, classical, rock, pop, country, etc), and the software will "produce" a royalty free soundbed for your production; to the video's length.

You do have the option of going back into the created music and tweak things here and there. Pretty quick and efficient. But, not as "organic" as I would like.

I have practiced quite a bit and feel comfortable with how I shoot and ride at the same time.

Here is the original footage of crossing the Verona Island Bridge. Dale and I had stopped at a traffic light in Bucksport, (It was red). I asked him to ride on the right side of the bridge while crossing because I was going to try and pass him on the left while shooting and get the bridge, bike, river and town of Bucksport all at once. It worked for the most part.......

That's just about the way I felt when I got my V-Strom, I kept my 04 KLR 650 because I still enjoy riding it, two different Dual Sports. I have several riding buddies that have added the V-Strom to their stable, best bang for the buck out there.

Beautiful footage, well done! I really need to visit that part of the country.

It looks like this Suzuki dealer also sells cars. That is interesting as I have never seen that before.

The Suzuki SX4 is one of the least expensive and most economical AWD cars sold in the US, so it is catching on in the snow belt.

Some Honda dealers started the same way.
