Impotency issue

My 08 wee has 13,500 miles and the battery has impotetency problems, It won't keep it up! When totally disconnected from the bike you can watch the charge drop by .01V every 10-15 seconds.
Started being slow to start a week ago and had to jump it once. Went 110 miles yesterday and today it wouldn't start. Starts fine if I charge it up just won't stay up! I think it needs some battery Viagra!
Of course today is a holiday and everything is closed!

Thanks for listening.

Sounds like an internal short. Not unusual. Time for a new one.

Walmart's open today. They'll have the battery in stock for you. Just remember to fully charge it before riding.

Walmart?

Warhammer,

Do they sell the maintence free battery? How much? It's 40 miles to Walmart from my house. I tried to find out from the Walmart website but all it would come up with was a battery operated Ducati for kids. Do you have to precharge the maintence free ones? My wee is my primary vehicle, so that makes things more difficult.

Thanks for the replies!

Garage
You would want the WalMart ES12BS and it is sealed. See http://www.apexbattery.com/wal-mart-...batteries.html and any new rechargeable battery needs to be charged before use for maximum life.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s
See https://www.stromtrooper.com/general-...nicknames.html

Apex

Greywolf,

Thanks for the link, I've never seen the Apex site before. Interesting note that it is listed as @ $69 at the top of page and @$67 at the bottom. Perhaps something to do with shipping, but orders over $50 are free.....

my bad that's the acid battery at the bottom

Down to what?

The surface charge may be over 14v right off the charger, but that will dissipate pretty quickly. It should settle in around 12v. If it keeps dropping beyond 11.5 or so, that's bad; replace it. You can also take it just about anywhere that sells automotive batteries and have it load tested.

I don't know of anyone that makes an AGM battery that'll fit this bike; I'd love one ... lots of SLA options, though.

Load tests aren't always accurate. I'm going through that with my boat right now, 2 dealers telling my batteries are fine, but they discharge overnight. I had a Honda Civic that the battery kept dying. It load tested 4 times as good. I got fed up and bought a new battery, no more problems. The salesman said, hey your battery is good, I told him to put in his car then:rolleyes:
