Thoughts on the Moto Carrier II tow system?

I'd like to tow my Wee, but don't want to buy or store a full trailer. I tried the Undertaker, but it didn't work: it wobbled so badly that I only towed it for 50 feet before giving up. I even tried several different strap placements, etc. No luck. The Undertaker has an extra turning point at the hitch, and the hitch is a Class II (1 1/4") with a converter to 2", so it also wobbled.(Because the folks there are VERY nice, and even connected me to the engineer on a Sunday afternoon, I blame it on my bike. Perhaps the Wee is too top-heavy?)

Does anyone have an opinion on the Moto Carrier? (See http://topgear-products.com) It also mounts to the hitch and only lifts the front tire off the ground. (The weight rests on the back tire. For long distances, I will remove the chain.) But because it has no moving pivots and has a 2" hitch tongue, it might work better.

Thoughts?

that would not work well with dry sump engined bikes . they need the engine running to operate the oil pumps that circulate oil . the the countershaft would be spinning in i little bit of oil that would be getting to hot . the owners manual for my dry sump yamaha XT 550 said " do not coast with engine off "

spoke too soon

instuctions say chain should be removed on bikes made in japan .

I used u-haul's motorcycle trailer, and it was fine. Rent was $15 a day, which isn't bad. I don't need one nearly often enough to justify owning and storing a trailer, so it was a good solution.

I'd go with a full trailer, evn though you don't want one for the simple fact you have to remove the chain, plus you will wear out rear tires even faster this way. wwwAluma.com makes some really nice trailers or you may check your local craiglist for a small ATV trailer. The nice thing about a trailer is you can also put a storage box for gear/tools on it and not have to use the tow vehicle for packing it. I've seen some that fold up for just hauling motorcycles that are pretty slick looking, but you get what you pay for, I wouldn't go to cheap, if your bike falls off it would cost more than a decent trailer, plus it may do other damage to someone else that you'd be liable for also!--Cheers-BB

Amen to a full trailer. Get a utility trailer and modify it for motorcycles. I have a 6X8 from Tractor Supply and have used it for years, mostly for hauling yard debris, furniture and whatever. But when I need to haul a bike or bikes { 2 street bikes or 3 dirtbikes } the fold down tail gate makes it easy to load and unload. All it took was to drill 5 holes in the metal rail around the trailer for the tiedowns. Three in the front and 2 in the rear. When you tighten the tiedowns, the pressure locks the front tire onto the rail. I also hook two tiedowns together and and run them through the rear wheels and to the rails to prevent the rear wheels from slipping and sliding from sharp turns or bumps. Never had a problem but I will be extra careful next time as I don't want to jinx myself!
