Hey everyone,

There are 4 of us (3 on V-Stroms) on a 9,000 mile trip and we're DUE FOR AN OIL CHANGE...

If anyone in the Portland/Salem/Eugene area has a garage/work area we could utilize we'd appreciate it (Or just somewhere to put the old oil). We have a few of our own tools, so it would be nice to be able to do it ourselves.

We're in Portland now through Wednesday, when we head down to Eugene.

Thanks for looking... feel free to call or e-mail me. Oh, and we're chronicling our motorcycle/coffee trip here www.cafecircuit.com. Feel free to check it out--lots of great Strom pics!
Cheers,

Chad

try posting in the Regional / Northwest. May get a hit since there are many in that area.

I don't know your planned route but I am in Klamath Falls. I have a shop I rent with a couple other guys where we hide from the wives and waste our time lying to each other. It is set up with the basics; tools, air, water, oil disposal, junky old cars in various states of "restoration", etc. We should be able to fit a few bikes in there without much trouble.

Eugene is on I-5. K Falls is on 97. Just south of Eugene you can head east on 58, over Willamette Pass, then south on Hwy. 97 to K. Falls, then tie back into I-5 at Weed, CA. Nice ride.

Find a Wal-Mart.......buy some Rotella 15W/40 oil "leave filter on".....buy a cheap oil drain container.....drop off the oil at the Wal-Mart. Or.....you could change the oil in a dealership parking lot and I bet they would take the oil. Or...........you could just plead to the dealer for the cheapest rate they would give you for a change. Dealers tend to be sympathetic with motorcyclists that are traveling. Why not give it a try????

I 2nd the Walmart idea...
They also carry Castrol if you didn't want to go synthetic. They'll take the oil for ya and they may even give you an oil pan. If you can't get a pan (which you most likely will, you can also use a garbage can lid from the garage.

I take a spare filter with me if I'm on such a long trip.

Good luck.

Go out for coffee and wind up riding 9,000 miles and in need of an oil change?! Dude, you really need to get your GPS fixed.

I like the Walmart idea, buy 3 5-qt containers of oil and you'll have enough for all 4 bikes. Split the cost of the pan and you're still cheaper than a dealer change. If you did a change with filter before going out for coffee (you did this right?) you shouldn't "have" to change the filter since your ride sounds like all road miles, probably no too dirty.
R.I.P. (Retire In Peace, thanks for the great ride.)

Thanks for all the help (and humor), fellas, that's why I love this site...

I've responded to a few PMS, and if someone's garage doesn't work into the schedule, I think the wal-mart idea will suit us just fine...

AND for those of you who live on the West Coast and asked about riding with us for any leg of the journey, please join us!! For a better idea of our route, go to our website and click on "MAP" www.cafecircuit.com. Or you can e-mail me at chad@cafecircuit.com and see where we are...

Thanks again and Cheers,
Chad
