Poll - most street miles w/o a crash?

Saw some young kid get off his GSXR yesterday at the shop wearing shorts, sneakers, and a t-shirt. I was ATGATT as usual. I asked him what he thought was going to happen when he went down like that. He looked at me like I was a crazy old man. Course, he's right, but that's not the point. Later inside I saw him shopping (clearly with his Mom) for sunglasses. I told them both he'd be better served by spending her cash on protective gear, not $200 shades. She thought I was a whack job too.

Anyway, got me thinking. Maybe he'll never go down. I suppose not everyone who rides on the street will crash, even though odds are good.

I went down once after I'd had about 10K miles of experience. Totally my fault - damp road, cold tires, mild buzz, young and stupid. Bad combination. Ended up with some road rash and damaged parts. Could have been much worse. Haven't been down on the street since in over 100K miles.

So, who has the most miles w/o a street crash? Dirt does not count - you are SUPPOSED to crash on dirt. Race tracks don't count either - if you don't crash there you aren't going fast enough.

I am at 35K and counting on the street without a crash. I am midpoint; I am not ATGATT but I do minimally wear a helmet, gloves, and a jacket.

Whether a person chooses to wear protective gear is their business, nobody else's. I see them all the time, I mind my own business, I never say a word. If they are old enough to be on a bike they are old enough to choose for themselves whether or not to protect themselves.

To answer the question: 50k and counting.

I'm a non-texting, non-facebooking, cyber-acronym deficient N. Carolina redneck. Can you explain what ATGATT is?

PS - If I cared enough to figure out how to make an avatar for my postings, I'd want one just like yours...

I've crashed every bike I've ever owned but one.

Most all were while wearing shorts, maybe some jeans, and a t-shirt.

No scars or scrapes but I did break my pinky finger once.

I was hit by an inattentive driver @ 22k miles. Not much I could have done differently to avoid the accident.

If only you had found the father and told him he should've been ATTGAT when he rode the mom.

To answer the thread question:

364 days of ownership, 15,000 miles. ATTGAT, not a scratch on the helmet, tore up the jacket a bit. Makes me feel stupid for wearing that helmet all year long.

I started riding in 1980, took some time off, and didn't have my first crash until 2007.

Know what the guys at the TCARC course call pavement? "The belt sander."
