Wheel interchangeability
Seeking forum knowledge re swapping wheels among different DL years/models.
Specifically, a rear wheel swap between an '09 1000 and a '13 650.

I'm open to correction, but are the axle diameters not different? Perhaps you could check the wheel bearing specs of each model / year wheel, to confirm their internal diameter / axle diameter? Then there would also be the question of mounting the ABS ring. The Gen 1 Vee did not have ABS.
I know first-gen DL1000 and DL650 rears are the same. The fronts are different because the DL1000 has a larger axle and no speedo drive.
However, I'm not sure about this particular swap with a 2012+ DL650. You also didn't specify which direction you're swapping.
I think it would roll and get you home. The bearings and brake rotors are the same. There might be some small differences in the spacers.
But I don't believe the DL1000 wheel has the three mounting holes for the 650's ABS ring.
So you could probably (no guarantees) put the 2013 DL650 wheel on the 2009 DL1000 and just ignore the ABS ring.
Or you could but the DL1000 wheel on the DL650, but the ABS wouldn't work and the warning light would be annoying. Then again, maybe you could drill and tap some mounting holes; they're only M5.

After a search, I came across the thread https://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php?topic=10899.0. Not sure that the DL650 axle sizes are the same for all, gen 1, gen 2 and gen 3. My gen 1 Wee rear axle nut takes a 22mm on one end and a 24mm spanner on the other, while the Gen 1 Veek takes a 36mm axle nut. Not sure of the axle nut sizes of the Glee and Veek or that of the newer models.
I think the easiest way to check something like this is to go on a website that sells OEM parts (like Rocky Mountain ATV, or Partzilla) and look up the OEM part number for each wheel you're looking for. If the parts numbers match then they're the same part, and either one would fit in whatever application you're planning.
