new class of 300cc Adv bikes

With Kawasaki's Versys 300, and BMW's 310gs, I wonder how long before Suzuki makes a smaller VStrom? Both of the aforementioned are nice looking, but the lower HP would probably overwhelm that new bike feeling for me.

The do make a smaller V-Strom. It's a 250 twin and it is nothing special. So much so that US Suzuki does not import it and die hard V-Strom fans buy the Kawsaki X300 (and wish it was a 400).

I love the "Make it bigger" mentality. Never enough, eh? Why not a 250, smaller, lighter, less expensive, better mpg's. Yes, less power but power is not the reason you buy a small bike. Don't expect Interstate capability of a big rig. It am what it be.
Some countries don't allow the big bikes so the masses tear around on small bikes.
Oh, CSC is now importing a 450cc ADV version for $5400 vs the 250 for $4000.

I'd say they're more aimed at the asian and even European market. small for navigating the city easier. though I'm sure it could, i wouldn't want to take one on the highway.

"quality is just not there..."

Heavens to Betsy, Honda and Kawasaki making shoddy motorcycles, What is the world coming to?
Even the CSC bikes are making small bike owners happy from what I've seen.
Not like the stuff you may find at PepBoys.

I haven't heard any reports of poor quality in the Versys 300...did I miss something?

My second ride. The one more suited for unmaintained roads and tracks. Also happy hour after hour at 70mph. Shoddy workmanship? Show me where please. Unreliable? Not according to kawasakiversys.com. All the threads there so far (unlike here) are on how to individualise them. Perhaps that will change as they age.

I knew someone on the board owned one!!! I see no reason why quality would suffer just because it's smaller displacement. I'm interested in a Versys to replace my Old Wee, but a 300 as my only ride worries me. Looking for a 650 as of now. But finding one at a reasonable price has been frustrating so far. But I can wait till later in the season when prices drop. Or, maybe Kawi will stuff a Ninja 400 in there next year? Even tho' the Wee lured me away for a few years, Kawasaki has always been my favorite!
